Meet Sydnei Matthews-Hardy: The Woman Behind P&A Plumbing
Sydnei Matthews-Hardy, Owner and Lead Plumber of P&A Plumbing, started her construction career in 2015 after enrolling in a pre-apprenticeship training program at Chicago Women in Trades (CWIT). The pre-apprenticeship program prepares and supports women in construction careers. The program entails classroom and hands-on training while gaining knowledge of the various Union trade career options.
After visiting and participating in a hands training at Local 130 Plumbers, Sydnei knew in her heart that she had found her calling.
Annie Scott & Sydnei Matthews-Hardy
Sydnei is a first-generation Plumber in her family; however, she is not the first Union Tradeswoman. Sydnei stands on the shoulders of her beloved grandmother, Annie Scott - a proud Union Laborer since 1987.
As a woman of color in a male-dominated industry, Sydnie sometimes wanted to quit, but she challenged the difficulty and allowed it to make her more resilient. With the encouragement and support from her family and Trade Sisters from CWIT, Sydnei remained focused and determined. Her strong work ethic, pride in her chosen trade, and steadfast faith guided her to complete the initial chapter of her construction career journey. Sydnie completed her apprenticeship program to become a Licensed Plumber.
With nearly a decade in the industry and working on major construction projects throughout Chicago as a Licensed Union Plumber, Sydnei decided it was time to take the next step in her career.
Sydnie launched P&A Plumbing, LLC to service commercial and residential clients.
Through her commitment to excellent service and her dedication to professionalism, P&A Plumbing will form strong professional and residential partnerships based on integrity and reliability. These traits, along with Sydnie’s determination and deep-rooted ties to Chicago communities, will enable P&A Plumbing to become one of the premier women-owned Plumbing companies in Chicago.
